Shielding the Vulnerable: Developing an Integrated Approach to Combat Intimate Partner Violence in Obstetric Populations in Denmark and Italy

The I-COPE project aims to address the high prevalence and often underreported issue of intimate partner violence (IPV) among the obstetric population in Europe. Studies reveal significant IPV rates among women and men, with substantial impact during and after pregnancy. The project’s scientific objectives include identifying gaps in current screening tools, revising and adapting screening tools for a multidimensional detection of risk of IPV exposure and perpetration among the obstetric population (i.e. pregnant women and new mothers and their partners) in Italy and Denmark, and implementing a digital risk screening program to permit early identification of multiple types of violence and risk of perpetration in new families. Additionally, the project aims to empower victims and timely intervene on perpetrators, to reduce and combat IPV and strengthen gender-specific responses to IPV.
