Description
Description | The project involves the expansion of Shijiazhuang No. 4 Hospital in the city of Shijiazhuang, the capital of Hebei Province, which has a population of 10 million. The hospital, which has the highest national category (Level III Grade A), specializes in obstetrics, gynecology and neonatology. With 31,000 deliveries in 2016 (25% of all births in the greater Shijiazhuang area), the hospital is the leading facility in the area of mother and child care in Hebei Province. For several years now, the hospital has been massively reaching its capacity limits and is often overcrowded. A comprehensive expansion is therefore planned. In addition to the two existing hospitals in the center and east of the city, another hospital is to be built in the eastern part of Shijiazhuang. The KfW-financed part of the project includes equipping the new hospital with modern medical equipment. The project is intended to significantly expand the hospital's treatment capacity by 800 beds and the range of diagnostic and treatment options. Among other things, the number of annual inpatients is to be increased by 55% from 55,000 to 85,000 by 2020 and the number of annual outpatients is to be doubled from 1.3 million to 2.6 million. In addition, the hospital is to be strengthened in its function as a teaching hospital. The total cost of the current expansion project is around EUR 139 million. EUR 20 million of this is to be financed through a Federal Development Fund loan. The loan is to be used 100% to purchase modern medical equipment. |
