Description
Description | The project is along Shore Road and consists of two segments. The first segment is approximately 320 metres in length. The start point is roughly 200 metres east of the intersection of Shore Road and Sand Beach Road. The end point is 300 metres east of the start point along Shore Road. The work will take place along the beach in-between Shore Road and the Atlantic Ocean. The second segment is roughly 160 metres in length and begins approximately 2.4 kilometres east of the intersection. The end point is roughly 160 metres eastward from the start point. The work will also take place along the beach in-between Shore Road and the Atlantic Ocean. The work is required to protect two segments of Shore Road that run along the Atlantic Coast, which are susceptible to shoreline erosion and flooding issues. There is an existing retaining wall in the first segment that protects the road, however, R1 Armour Rock is required in-front of the wall to help reinforce it and protect it during storm events. The second segment is currently unprotected, and erosion has already begun. The project involves excavation of the existing rock and gravel that is washed up against the retaining wall and reinstating this area with armour rock (>1000mm diametre) for the first segment and placing armour rock for the second segment. The work will result in added protection to the road which will be more resistant to shoreline erosion due to the effects of climate change such as sea level rise and more severe storm events. In-addition this will help address on-going flooding issues. |
