Description | The proposed Shree Jagannath International Airport is a greenfield airport project located at Sipasurubali village in Brahmagiri tehsil, Puri district, Odisha, India. The project covers 471 hectares of land and has recently secured in-principle Stage-I approval from the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change for diversion of 27.887 hectares of forest land, with conditions to implement mitigation measures including a wildlife management plan. The project is near sensitive ecological zones such as the Chilika Ramsar Site, Balukhanda-Konark Wildlife Sanctuary, and nesting grounds of Olive Ridley turtles, raising concerns about risks to migratory birds, marine species, and coastal ecology. |
