Hyundai E&C, presented light to a “small fortress”The Arabic word for small fortress is "Kuwait." The Shuaiba industrial complex, 40km south of Kuwait City, has the Kuwait’s Shuaiba North Cogeneration Power Plant built by Hyundai E&C.The ordering organization, Ministry of Electricity & Water (MEW) invited construction companies in February 2006 to develop a new power plant in the existing power plant site of the Shuaiba industrial complex destroyed during the Gulf War. Hyundai E&C won the USD 717 million contract ordered by the MEW in July 2007.The Shuaiba North Cogeneration Power Plant located in the Shuaiba industrial complex was a project constructing three GTG units, heat recovery steam generator (HRSG) units, and a steam turbine generator (STG) unit. Hyundai E&C conducted all of the design, procurement of equipment, installation, and test run of the project.Minimized the delay in construction period with speedy construction workIt was inevitable for the project to change the initial steel structure after the commencement of work due to design delay and lack of data. Partial revisions were repeated in the midst of steel frame installation, so many changes occurred, delaying the construction period. To minimize the delay, Hyundai E&C simultaneously created Precision Manufacturing Drawing and conducted construction while repairing the damaged the members of framework along with the installation of the vertical member.Accordingly, the name of Hyundai E&C from Korea became familiar with the residents in Shuaiba, Gulf Coast, Kuwait. In the past, the Shuaiba people suffered from a large-scale blackout in every summer peak season, but the power supply became stable after the construction of the plant. The MEW known for a fastidious ordering organization showed great reliability to Hyundai E&C by actively requesting to “continuously participate in the following power plant construction biddings.”Currently, the Shuaiba North Cogeneration Power Plant actively produces electric power where 60m high stacks emitting smokes. In the central control room, responsible for the overall management of the plant, the electric energy and steam temperature and pressure are displayed in real time on 14 screens. All the systems are automatic, so responsible people can run and stop all facilities with a click of mouse. The Shuaiba North Cogeneration Power Plant constructed in the land of desert was a representative project for Hyundai E&C, so it would serve as a steppingstone for us to win the following construction projects in Kuwait.
