Siang Multi-Purpose Hydropower Project

A proposed multi-purpose hydroelectric project on the Siang river in Arunachal Pradesh. The project is significant for managing the impact of the world's biggest dam being constructed by China on the upper reaches of the river in Tibet. The government plans to engage in dialogue with protestors against the project and has directed the constitution of new development authorities for future-ready alternate towns. A 'necklace road' is also planned along the Siang river above the likely submergence area on both banks.
