Sicamous - Shuswap (Secwepemc) Healing Centre

The proposed project will improve a health facility in support of the Truth and Reconciliation Calls to Action. The works will construct a wellness and healing centre for Indigenous and non-Indigenous people within the District of Sicamous, presented in partnership with the Splastin Nation. The project will provide a centralized healing centre that will support all of the Secwepemc Nations with various services needed in the area. The Nations have signed a Communications Accord with the District of Sicamous which lays the foundation for information sharing and joint projects to benefit the entire region for both Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities. The facility will focus on mental health, addiction services, and counselling services to support First Nations members that need support for issues such as residential schools, abuse, neglect and/or poverty, as well as various other supports. The facility will also offer primary care and other allied health services to both Indigenous and non-Indigenous people with a focus on team-based care. The project works include: - construction of an approximately 16,000 sq.ft. wellness and healing centre building; - landscaping, including healing gardens; - outdoor community space with walking paths and First Nations design elements; - plumbing, mechanical and electrical works; and - related works.
