The Sidi Silmane Agricultural Development Project for Morocco will provide: 1) irrigation and drainage works 2) road improvements, 3) 13 livestock centers, 12 breeding stations, and 11 agricultural service centers for tractor, (equipping each center with 16 to 20 heavy-duty tractors), machinery and supply services, and technical assistance to farmers, 4) dairy demonstration and herd breeding centers, 5) consolidation and modernization of individual farms, and 6) agricultural processing plants. The development centers will supply the farmers on favorable terms with the necessary means for more intensive farming, and transport and marketing services will enable them to sell their products at favorable prices. The agricultural works and services include raising of the already existing dam at El Kansera on the Oued Beth irrigation system; improvement of irrigation drainage works for both irrigated and dry land; improvement and extension of farm-to-market roads; consolidation of farm holdings including farm layout, title registration, etc. The project would benefit an area of 88,000 ha of which 29,700 ha will be irrigated and at full development will produce substantial increases in agricultural production, raise income of families, and provide considerable new employment in the processing plants and at the agricultural service and livestock centers.
