Description
Description | The Matotoka-Sefadu Road Rehabilitation Project will support the efficiency of the transport sector in Sierra Leone. The rehabilitation of the road will provide an efficient road link from the Eastern province to the capital port city of Freetown and the rest of the country. The road is the primary gateway to the diamond and agricultural rich district of Kono with Sefadu as tha social, commercial and administrative headquarters. The project consists of: (i) rehabilitation of a two-lane bitumen surfaced road (7.0 m wide with 1.38 m shoulders) for a total length of 119 kms between Matotoka-Sefadu; and (ii) consultancy services for supervision of construction works. Improvement of this major national highway will reduce travel time, vehicle operating costs and associated high fares between Matotoka and Safadu. It will equally facilitate the importation into the project area of agricultural inputs, evacuation of produce and promote the development of the diamond mines. In aggregate terms, the project will create positive economic multiplier effect on agriculture, mining, commerce and social activities in the project areas. |
