Sierra Leone - Strengthening of District Health Services

The Strengthening District Health Services Project aims at improving access to quality health care in five districts in Sierra Leone , namely: Bonthe, Port Loko, Bo, Kenema and Tonkolili. This project will also enhance the institutional capacity of the country’s Ministry of Health and Sanitation. As a result, the use of health facilities in the concerned districts is expected to increase the number of births, the patients should be attended by trained medical staff and maternal and child mortality rates are expected to drop. The project cost is estimated at UA 18.9 million, equivalent to 86.3 billion Leones. In order to achieve its objectives, the project includes the following components : i) Strengthening of the District Health Systems; ii) Strengthening of MCH Programme and iii) Project Management.
