Description

The objectives of the Energy Access Project for Sierra Leone are to: 1) reduce losses in electricity supply in Freetown Capital Western Area; 2) improve commercial performance of the National Power Authority (NPA); and 3) increase access to electricity in selected rural areas. The project consists of the following components: i) rehabilitation of primary distribution network, loss reduction and improvement of NPA's operational and commercial performance; ii) rural electrification; and iii) project implementation management. The first component deals with multiple investment and technical assistance activities. The second component is concerned with the launch of a pilot program for the installation of photovoltaic systems in public buildings in fourteen villages, to demonstrate applicability of the solar technology for larger deployment. The final component is specifically designed to strengthen project implementation and management capacity. This paper pertains to issuing of a grant for the aforementioned project.
