Singapore L4 Autonomous public bus services project

The project involves the technical feasibility of autonomous vehicle (AV) technology in public transportation and understanding the operational aspects of managing autonomous buses at both service and fleet levels in Singapore.The pilot deployment will start with smaller buses with at least 16 seats.  It will commence with Service 400 (Marina Bay/Shenton Way), followed by Service 191 (One-North). These two services were selected for their shorter and simpler routes; One-North is also part of an existing AV test-bed, where AV trials have been conducted since 2019. In the second half of 2026, LTA plans to deploy autonomous public buses for pilot operations on Service 191 in One-North and Service 400 along Marina Bay and Shenton Way. Connecting major hubs such as Marina Bay Cruise Centre, Gardens by the Bay and MRT stations, the initiative marks the first time autonomous buses have been incorporated into a public transport system overseas for real-world daily use.
