The project forms the second and final stage of the Pasir Panjang B Thermal Station, and consists of two 60 MW turbo-alternator sets and two boilers. This will double the capacity of the first stage financed by the bank in 1963. Electricity sales in Singapore have risen at an average rate of 9.6 percent per year over the past five years, and this rate is expected to rise to 15 percent per year between 1966 and 1970 due mainly to a big increase in sales to large industrial consumers. The Electricity Department plans a further expansion program between 1966 and 1970 which will add a further 300 MW to the installed capacity in addition to the 120 MW provided in the present project. It will also provide the necessary transmission and distribution capacity. The program is well designed to meet the increase in demand.
