Description

Description

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has completed biomining at the Singhola silt dumping site along GT Karnal Road, flattening a mound of nearly 800,000 tonnes of waste and reclaiming 7.2 acres of land for controlled silt disposal. This project is part of sustainable waste management efforts and is the fourth major biomining project by MCD after Bhalswa, Okhla, and Ghazipur sites. The site was saturated due to years of desilting waste dumping and was allotted to MCD in 2018 by DDA. Biomining involved separating components of legacy waste using trommel machines. The project was proposed in 2023 with a cost of ₹79 crore and was completed by July 2025, following directives from the National Green Tribunal (NGT). The flattened site will be reused for controlled silt disposal to prevent oversaturation and ease pressure on other sites.
