Description

Description

Girls are powerful—but too often, they don’t believe it. Research shows that many teenage girls struggle with low self-esteem, lack of confidence, and gender-based stereotypes. We believe literature can play a vital role in changing this reality. The central theme of the project “Sisterhood of Stories” is female strength, agency, and solidarity. Through the publication of nine books featuring strong female protagonists, we aim to empower teenage girls, provide them with positive role models, and challenge harmful stereotypes. The project includes eight novels and one comic book, designed for readers aged 11–16. The titles will be translated from Swedish (6 books), Dutch (1 book), and French (2 books). Beyond publishing, the project also encompasses a range of promotional and educational activities inspired by the books. These initiatives will engage both young people and the adults who support them, providing tools to address key challenges such as online harassment, gender-based discrimination, body image issues, and self-confidence struggles. We also see these books as a bridge—engaging, well-crafted stories that introduce young readers to literature beyond mainstream young adult fiction. Teenagers are enthusiastic readers, and we want to help them explore new voices, diverse perspectives, and books of higher literary quality—including those translated from lesser-known European languages. We want them to get to know its authors and translators and have the opportunity to engage in conversations with them. Finally, we aim to initiate a deeper discussion among readers about the titles published in the project, encourage sharing opinions, and create reading communities around them.
