The project will increase food security by expanding the Skeetchestn Community School community garden and food production services . The work will include a new greenhouse, small animal pens and shelters, processing area and cold storage. The garden will provide fresh produce and meat to band members at prices related to the cost of growing the food. Cold storage would also increase the shelf life of the food grown. The reserve is located 25 minutes from the closest grocery store, which makes fresh produce and meat hard to access for band members that are elderly or don’t have transportation. The project works include: -construction of a polycarbonate greenhouse; -construction of washrooms, processing room and workshops; -electrical and plumbing works as required; -fencing and animal shelters for small livestock; -prep and installation of a shipping container for cold storage: and, -related works.
