Skill Development and Entrepreneurship for Rural Youth

The objective of this project is to identify groups of unemployed youth of a cluster of villages from lower income group, bring them to Rural Development Centre at IIT Kharagpur and give them skill and entrepreneurship training of short duration. Depending on the nature and type of trade the training duration is from a minimum of one week to six weeks. This will provide them necessary motivation and skill for taking up self employment in their areas. In the entrepreneurship segment of the training the trainees will take up a business idea, have market survey done and make a project report. RDC will also help in facilitating for loan from banks. There is a mechanism for follow up and hand holding the rural youth for their settlement. Training facilities, trainers and volunteers to be offered by IIT Kharagpur. 720 candidates in 3 years can be trained who will become skilled and can become self employed. This project can also beExtended to other clusters and neighbouring states. This project is allied with GOIs focus on Skill India and Start Up-Stand Up India.
