The Danish-German borderregion is generally looked upon as a region with a potential for growth. However, the feeling of living in a common borderregion is not yet traceable amongst a large part of the population, but requires a more active and involving process of integration. Therefore, it seems obvious to use activities within culture and sports as a means to create new sustainable communities trough the direct meeting between people. By the use of a Microproject pool the project will support the implementation of culture and sports cooperations between associations, institutions and citizens, in order to give children, youth and adults from the region the possibility to partake in new cross-border relationships. In addition, there will be held bigger annual events in the region within culture or sports, which will support the community as well as giving the participants a better understanding of eachother. The aquisition of Danish and German linguistic and intercultural competences will be an important aspect of all the activities within the project, i.e. when participants in the microprojects will strengthen their intercultural competences through a common reflection while also learning more about the practices on ‘the other side’ of the border. Parallel with the carrying out of the activities, a method for the strengthening of intercultural and linguistic competences will be developed, communicated and anchored among the participants and partners for further use in cross-border activities in the region. The project results will be of great use for all participants in the project, as the participants – through the activities – will be involved in the development of the new competences as well as the anchoring of the new competences, also after the end of the project period. The project is developed through a co-operation between the participating partners, on the basis of experiences and needs in the eastern part of the Danish-German programme region. All the project activites will require the participation of minimum one Danish and one German partner, thus underlining that the project can only be accomplished as a cross-border initiative. The innovative character of the project is to bring an intercultural learning perspective into use both regardring the common assignments of the project partners and the cross-border microprojects and events, thus securing the development of methods which will create a sustainable and increased culturel integration in the region for years to come.
