The project will increase food security on the Skuppah First Nation by constructing a building to house a community kitchen, freezer & fridge and food storage areas. The Food Security Centre would act as a multi-purpose building, with the focus to provide a space for the community to prepare and store foods throughout the year. Currently, there is no space that can facilitate safe community-scale and traditional food preparation, processing and storage. The Food Security Centre will help the community reconnect with its culture and provide traditional food preparation training. The project work includes: - construction of an approx. 3000 sq. ft. building housing a kitchen, freezer, fridge, food storage areas, washroom and shower; - site servicing including water service, wastewater system, lot grading and access road; - purchase and installation of emergency generator; - installation of electrical, mechanical and plumbing; and, - all related works.
