Description

Description

This proposed investment in Shangri-La Asia Limited (“SLA” or the “company”, publicly listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange), via SLA’s wholly owned subsidiary Shangri-La Asia Treasury Limited, is a repeat investment for an amount of up to US$145 million to support the company’s operations, including but not limited to six existing SLA branded hotels in the Asia Pacific countries of Fiji, Maldives, Mongolia, and Sri Lanka (“the project”), through a general purpose corporate loan facility. In 2009 and 2011, IFC provided financing for the subsequently-completed Shangri-La Maldives Resort & Spa project (IFC project no. 25498) and Shangri-La UlaanBaatar Hotel (IFC project no. 28546), respectively. IFC has two active ongoing investments in Shangri-La Myanmar (#33127 & #34711 – 2014), and Shangri-La UlaanBaatar 2 (#37908 – 2017). All existing projects are materially compliant with IFC environmental and social (E&S) requirements and have materially completed their respective E&S action plans.
