Description
Description | The Sleemanabad tunnel is an 11.95-km long underground water tunnel in Katni district, Madhya Pradesh, designed to carry Narmada water from the Bargi reservoir to the Son river basin. The project aims to irrigate 2.5 lakh hectares across five districts (Katni, Satna, Maihar, Rewa, and Panna), improve drinking water supply, and support power generation. The tunnel is designed to withstand major earthquakes and has an estimated lifespan of 100 years. Construction faced geological challenges and used a German tunnel boring machine from 2016 to speed up progress. Canal construction to distribute water is ongoing. |
