Description
Description | The Sleemanabad Tunnel is an 11.952-kilometre-long tunnel designed to carry Narmada water across the Vindhya mountain range to the Son River basin in Madhya Pradesh. It aims to irrigate 2.45 lakh hectares of land across nearly 1,450 villages in six districts, transforming the agricultural economy of the Vindhya and Mahakaushal regions by bringing water to previously arid farmlands. The tunnel is the longest in India and a remarkable engineering feat, overcoming geological challenges such as hard marble, limestone, dolomite, underground caverns, water ingress, and soil collapses. It uses a gravity-based system to allow water flow without electricity or heavy pumps. |
