Description
Description | The Sleemanabad tunnel is India's longest underground water conveyance tunnel, designed to carry Narmada water beneath the Vindhya mountain range into the Son river basin. It is a critical component of the 197-km Bargi Right Bank Main Canal and aims to provide assured irrigation to the drought-prone Vindhya region. The tunnel was constructed 20-40 metres below the surface and passes beneath the Vindhya ridge. The project faced nearly two decades of geological and engineering challenges and was completed with advanced engineering techniques. The tunnel will eventually irrigate around 1.85 lakh hectares in several districts of Madhya Pradesh. |
