Description
Description | Core problem Current small-scale irrigation does not make sufficient use of the existing natural resource potential to make the best possible contribution to food security and income generation. The strongly fluctuating and irregularly distributed rainfall (climate change) during the main growing season (rainy season) leads to high yield losses, as the lack of suitable infrastructure for water retention means that the rainfall runs off unused and often causes erosion damage. Module objective Sustainably increase agricultural production capacities and develop processing and marketing opportunities for small farmers in certain production basins (valley meadows) in the greater western and eastern regions of Burkina Faso. Key outputs - Financing of water management and soil erosion protection measures (construction of stone dams, wells and protective planting, procurement and installation of irrigation pumps for vegetable cultivation) - Expansion of the operating resources, storage and marketing infrastructure, construction of composting plants, construction of warehouses, construction and renovation of access roads. - Training of smallholder farmers in sustainable water management and cultivation techniques, sustainable operation and maintenance of infrastructure, processing and marketing strategies. Target group The target group are the predominantly poor smallholder farmers in the project regions of Greater West and Eastern Region. Contribution to the national implementation of Agenda 2030 The module contributes to Agenda Goal 2: ending hunger, achieving food security and better nutrition and promoting sustainable agriculture. In addition, the module contributes to Goal 1 (poverty reduction), Goal 5 (gender equality) and Goal 13 (strengthening resilience and adaptive capacity to climate change). |
