The Safer project aims to improve the innovation performance of the seafood sector by increasing technology adoption and transnational cooperation giving response to the challenges faced by this sector identified with high-potential for the smart growth of the Atlantic regions participating in the project. The project will drive innovation with a view of expanding the results to 21 Atlantic regions who will benefit from project’s experience in order to improve their innovation policies. Specific sub-objectives of the project are: (i) Create an innovation platform to sustain an effective transnational network of seafood clusters by putting in place the organisation, governance, innovation, services and tools that the network will need to effectively and sustainably drive innovation in a fast-moving network of SMEs and third level and Applied Research Centres distributed across the Atlantic Area; (ii) Inspire technology adoption and collaboration within the seafood sector by using the innovation platform established to increase the level of collaboration and technology transfer. Living Lab pilots will be jointly implemented and evaluated in order to test the effectiveness of the platform; (iii) Serve as empirical input for the Regional Innovation Smart Specialization Strategies (RIS3) of the Atlantic regions by evaluating project results and providing recommendations to be considered by the decision makers responsible of the RIS3 and other innovation strategies in these Atlantic regions.
