Description

Description

The FC module is part of the Green Energy Transition Program in Egypt, consisting of several components with different financing instruments and project sponsors. The total available funding amounts to EUR 147.0 million (EUR 104 million in budget loans and EUR 43 million in grants). The thematic project supports the Egyptian government's national climate goals and initiatives for the implementation of a green energy transition - an increase in energy efficiency by 18% and an increase in the share of renewable energies to 42% by 2030. This can only be achieved with the help of comprehensive investments in the expansion of renewable generation capacities, the expansion and modernization of the existing power grid and measures to increase energy efficiency. The first two components of the thematic project will finance a central substation and accompanying measures in the areas of digitalization, sustainability and capacity building with the Egyptian transmission system operator as the project sponsor. Further investment measures will be developed in dialogue with the partners. This may include, among other things, further investments in the modernization and expansion of electricity transmission and distribution networks, the expansion of generation capacities from renewable energies and pilot measures in the areas of energy efficiency, digitalization and certification of green electricity.
