The last decade has seen a significant transformation in the films and series localization industry (dubbing, subtitling and accessibility services), largely fueled by the rise of streaming services and AVMS Directive impact. Localization responds to an evolution in the distribution of content, consisting in launching the same program on multiple territories at the same time. Effective localization involves adapting local content versions to be more culturally relevant, an area where France stands in dubbing, driven by a specific local process. Landscaped by local independent dubbing and subtitling companies, the European localization industry is facing two major challenges : its technology sovereignty and competitiveness, while the market is dominated by large American and Asian groups. The French company CTM has been at the forefront of developing digital tools for localization services. Supported by the French historical localization provider TITRAFILM, CTM leverages its existing tools with AI technology to streamline the process of creating multilingual dubbing, subtitling, SDH, and audiodescription. SMART NINA seeks to create a coherent collaborative technological environment as an all-in-one solution offering the complete range of localization services. AI technologies integrated to SMART NINA aim to homogenize the process, improve accuracy, adapt cultural nuances, while preserving the balance between AI and human contribution. The ambition is to provide the new localization standard, supported by an innovative business model combining SaaS subscriptions and pay-per-use revenue streams.
