The Senegal Electricity Sector Efficiency Enhancement Project aims to: (1) maintain and increase the electricity supply and the reliability of the services; (2) reduce the costs of the electricity services; and (3) enhance the performance of key energy sector institutions. The Project includes two components: Part A focuses on priority activities that will allow the commission for Senegal's National Power Utility (SENELEC) new generation facilities through an independent power producer; rehabilitate critical sections of the transmission and distribution systems; and reduce costs. It also supports the government and SENELEC in preparing the next phase of investment in the energy sector. Part B would provide financial resources to support the government's efforts to strengthen the institutions; implement public/private partnership arrangements for SENELEC; and for communication and monitoring and evaluation of project implementation.
