Snøhetta reimagines 550 Madison in New York

ongoing

Snøhetta has been commissioned to reimagine the 1980’s postmodern tower located at 550 Madison Avenue. The renovation is the first major project to be announced for New York City’s East Midtown since its revitalization plan was approved earlier this year. The design will transform the base into an inviting street front, extend the lively activity of Madison Avenue further south to 55th Street, and nearly double the adjacent public space to create a lush outdoor garden for public enjoyment. The building will be updated with state-of-the-art systems and new life will be breathed into the public, retail, and office spaces to meet the contemporary needs of one of the world’s most recognized avenues.
