The general objective is to boost the competitiveness of Peruvian SMEs through the use of ISO 9000 standards and the internationally-recognized conformity assessment system. The following strategies will be implemented to achieve this objective: (i) promoting the use of ISO 9000 management systems among entrepreneurs in the SME sector; (ii) improving the quality of service offered by consultants to assist SMEs in implementing ISO 9000 management systems and expanding those services; and (iii) strengthening the INDECOPI national standardization and accreditation system to develop favorable conditions enabling the Peruvian enterprise sector, in particular SMES, to use the conformity assessment system as a way to join the international market. Description: The project is composed of two separate programs: Program A, "Promotion and expansion of facilitation services for ISO 9000 quality management systems for SMES," and Program B: "Strengthening the national standardization and accreditation environments Program A has three basic components: (i) raising awareness among SMEs of the importance of ISO 9000 management systems; (ii) developing consulting methods for implementing ISO 9000 and training SMES; and (iii) training consultants and trainers in ISO 9000. Program B consists of supporting the competitiveness of SMEs by: (i) strengthening the national standards information system; and (ii) strengthening the national accreditation system.
