Description | British oil and gas company bp has joined Azerbaijani SOCAR in the exploration, development and production of gas fields on the Ustyurt Plateau in Uzbekistan. The Production Sharing Agreement covers the Boyterak, Terengquduq, Birqori, Kharoy, Qoraqalpoq and Qulboy blocks. bp has acquired a 40 per cent participating interest in the project: 20 per cent from SOCAR, which acts as operator, and 20 per cent from Uzbekneftegaz. Under the new structure, SOCAR and Uzbekneftegaz will each hold a 30 per cent stake. The SOCAR-Uzbekneftegaz consortium and the Government of Uzbekistan signed the Production Sharing Agreement for the blocks on 24 July 2025. The project is currently at an early stage, with SOCAR carrying out seismic survey activities. |
