The development objective of the Social Development Fund Project is to improve the livelihood of project beneficiaries in poor rural communities, and increase social capital at the local organizational level. The project consists of two main components: 1) Financing sub-projects prepared by recipients in poor rural communities, and disadvantaged groups. This includes the rehabilitation, upgrading, building or furnishing of small rural infrastructures; the development of community-based social services; and, income generating activities. Furthermore, training and technical assistance will be provided for building a community capacity, able to participate, identify, and prioritize their own needs, towards the design, implementation, and monitoring of sub-projects. In addition, cost-effectiveness standards will be maintained and appropriate technologies will be provided to support small infrastructures. 2) Strengthening the institutional capacity of the Social Development Fund and supporting the overall management of the project. The project will support poverty alleviation at the community level through an increased cooperation in resource mobilization and problem solving.
