Description
Description | Expand and update the disaggregated MDG indicator database, which presently includes up to four observations (circa 1990, 1995, 2000 and most recent survey) for 20 countries. In the shape of an increase in the number of countries by three, and the addition of an extra year for those countries with data available. The team would also start working with the available Demographic and Health Surveys (DHS), particularly in solving the lack of an income measure in these surveys. The team would work with statistical agencies of at least 10 countries to validate the results and transfer the estimation methodologies and the Web-based interface. These activities would be done in country with the technical staff of the statistical agencies.4.2 This work has already started in some Central American countries (Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala and Panama) with good results, the goal would be to continue with the countries of the Andean Community, Paraguay, Honduras, Nicaragua and the Dominican Republic. It is expected that the team would work with about 10 more countries.4.3 In order to disseminate and socialize the results a workshop would be organized in conjunction with UNDP's International Poverty Centre (IPC) in Brasilia, this event would gather professionals from statistical agencies, planning units, civil society and academia in the Region, and would contribute to the launching of the technical work, the results and the web site.4.4 The expected results would include the improvement, and updating of the regional database of disaggregated MDG indicators developed by IDB. The transfer of technology to statistical agencies in countries to use the household survey data available to estimate disaggregated MDG indicators. Plus the consolidation of the effort within the IDB. The transfer of the Web-based tool to make the data available to users through the Internet. All these would benefit policy-making in the countries by providing data beyond national averages to monitor progress in the achievement of the MDGs and to establish priorities. Civil Society, academics, and other users would benefit by having access to readily available data from the household surveys. |
