Description
Description | The military conflict in eastern Ukraine began in March 2014. According to the Ukrainian Ministry of Social Affairs, there are 1.5 million internally displaced persons. The majority of these refugees have fled to the government-controlled areas of the two oblasts of Donetsk and Luhansk and to the neighboring oblasts. The high number of refugees is putting a strain on the already scarce resources and social infrastructure in these regions. The aim of the FC measure is to strengthen the resilience of refugees and host communities and to support social cohesion in these communities. UNICEF is involved in implementing the measure. The measures are divided into three support areas: kindergarten and pre-school education, early intervention measures for children with behavioral problems, peace and reconciliation activities and the assumption of social responsibility. The regional focus is on the five eastern oblasts in Ukraine (= government-controlled areas of the Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts as well as the Kharkiv, Dnipropetrovsk and Zaporizhzhia oblasts), where many internally displaced persons have sought refuge due to the geographical proximity to their original homeland. The target group of the project includes both internally displaced persons and the local population in the host communities. A total of EUR 12.5 million in funding is being made available to UNICEF. |
