The Social Investment Program Project for Bangladesh aims to develop institutions, promote community-driven principles, pioneer performance-based social assistance programs for the poorest, and leverage private financing for basic services through the implementation of community-driven small-scale infrastructure works and social assistance programs. The project area will be the Jamalpur and Gaibandha districts, which rank among the highest in poverty incidence both in terms of income and human development. The project pilots novel approaches to develop procedures, tests different products and approaches, and demonstrates impact. The project components are: 1) strengthening the Social Development Fund (SDF); supporting institutional development at the community level; implementing Community Action Plans (CAP); and 4) providing technical assistance for pilot private financing in community utilities by assisting the SDF to identify, develop, appraise, and supervise subprojects in piped water supply and off-grid electricity.
