Description
Description | The project is the second phase of the Social Protection for Mothers and Children (1,000 Days Program) project in the context of COVID-19. Like the previous project, it pays cash transfers to pregnant women and mothers of young children under two years of age in Sudan to support this particularly vulnerable group during the COVID-19 pandemic and to contribute to food security and the healthy development of children. The transfer payments are supplemented by nutrition-related awareness-raising measures. The transfer payments can strengthen women's resilience during the COVID-19 pandemic and prevent physical and cognitive underdevelopment of children due to malnutrition. In addition, child and infant mortality is to be reduced. The target group of the program are the same 50,000 women with 50,000 young children in Sudan who were already supported during the first phase of the project. The additional funding enables transfer payments over the full first 1,000 days of the young children's lives. In addition, the management information system developed in the first phase is to be integrated into the authorities' established system architecture to improve registration, payment and monitoring processes, thereby strengthening the state social security network that is currently being developed. |
