The Social Sector Development (SSD) Project aims to contribute towards increased economic growth and poverty reduction in Romania. The project consists of four components. 1) The first component will strengthen the policy development, monitoring, and evaluation capacity of the government on poverty reduction and the core Ministry of Labor and Social Solidarity (MMSS) in social protection. This will be achieved through technical assistance and staff training, policy specific studies and program outcome evaluations, and the installation of a Central Management Information System within the MMSS. 2) The social insurance system reform component includes pension administration, development of the Pension Supervision Commission, and Occupational Hazards Insurance. 3) The labor market adjustment component, including the labor reemployment program and micro-credit subcomponents, will support adjustment of labor policy and programs to support adjustment of labor policy and programs to enhance economic reform. 4) The social assistance strengthening component will support the implementation of the new institutional framework for social assistance under the new Law on Social Assistance. This component includes three subcomponents: institution building based on pilot social assistance offices at the judets level; personnel development; and communications.
