Description

Societe Guineenne d'Electricite (SOGEL) is a consortium comprised of Hydro-Quebec International (33%), Electricite de France (EdF) (16.65%), SAUR International (16.65%), and the Government of Guinea through its holding company Energie Electrique de Guinee (Enelgui - 33.4%). SOGEL signed a 10-year concession contract with the government of Guinea to administer and rehabilitate power generation, transmission, and distribution services. The contract was signed on March, 31 1994 and was made effective on March 31, 1995. SOGEL has an estimated total power generation capacity of 180-MW. Investment included the development of a 5-MW plant at Tombo, the rehabilitation of transmission lines between Conarky and Kindia, and the rehabilitation of distribution connections in Conarky. The International Development Association (IDA), Caisse Francaise de Developpement (CFD), KFW, and ACDI are providing $150 million in concessional support of this project, and for technical assistance for Enelgui (the IBRD/IDA approved an US$50 million credit in 1992).
