Description

In May 2013, it became known that the government of Congo (Republic of) and the Societe Nationale de Distribution d'Eau (SNDE) had signed an agreement in Brazzaville with Veolia, to improve the supply and the quality of potable water in Pointe-Noire and Brazzaville, the two biggest cities in the country. The project included a rehabilitation of 212km of pipes in the distribution network, as well as 53000 private branches with meters and 175 public fountains. There was no information publicy available on the award method, or any of the other details usually described in the below. The turnaround for the contract was 4 years; the value of the contract was FCFA 6,833,632,021. The deal was part of the PEEDU program (Projet Eau, Electricité et Développement Urbain), co-financed by the World Bank (IDA, 20 percent) and the government of Congo (80 percent), for a total cost of $125.5 million. The deal was to serve 1,050,000 inhabitants of the two cities.
