Description

Description

The Quebec Hydro Electric/Suez Ilyo consortium has acquired 34% of SENELEC's shares. The Senegalese government has retained 41%, and the workers 10%. The consortium has the possibility to increase its stake to 49% in first five years following contract signing. HQI-ELYO will be responsible for managing all electricity activities during the 25-year concession. The strategic partner will operate SENELEC, control the current power production infrastructure, act as exclusive purchaser from independent production facilities, and maintain the distribution grid. All new power production facilities will be private and independent. The first IPP project was scheduled to be a 56 MW power station built by GE Capital, a 15-year BOOT project. In September 2000, Hydro-Quebec International of Canada and ELYO announced the cancellation of their power supply partnership after a spate of power cuts. The contract was ended in the wake of difficulties, which the national electricity company, Senelec, is facing. The consortium's stake reverted to the state. None None
