Description

The Sokhoro solar photovoltaic project is a 52 MWp solar plant located near Ferkessédougou in the Tchologo Region of Côte d’Ivoire. It is one of the country’s largest solar installations and aims to generate about 90 GWh of clean electricity annually, supplying power to over 370,000 people and reducing carbon emissions by around 41,000 tonnes per year. The project also supports the local economy by creating over 600 jobs during construction and operation. It is developed by Poro Power 1, led by PFO Africa, and features a unique FCFA/Euro financing model combining international and local currency funding to reduce exchange rate risks. The project secured financing through the country’s first green bonds for an energy project, targeting around €55 million, with major financial support from the Emerging Africa & Asia Infrastructure Fund (€28 million) and the West African Development Bank (€24 million in local currency).
