Sol Undersea Cable

Google plans to lay a massive new undersea cable called 'Sol' under the Atlantic Ocean, linking Spain directly with the United States. The cable will land in Santander, Spain, and stretch from Palm Coast in Florida to Spain, the US, Bermuda, and the Azores, creating key connectivity hubs. The project is backed by Spain's Telefonica through its infrastructure arm Telxius, partly owned by Zara founder Amancio Ortega. The cable aims to boost local economies and deliver AI benefits to businesses and consumers worldwide. It will be the only fibre optic cable in service between Europe and Florida, manufactured entirely in the United States.
