Description

Description

This project is part of the current collective effort on climate change mitigation and adaptation at the national and regional levels. This project participates in research activities on the evolution of solar and wind potential in the South-West Indian Ocean (SOOI) by 2050 in the context of climate change (according to the different RCP1 scenarios). It meets the objectives of COP21 and COP 22. It should also make it possible to lay the groundwork for research at regional level on the issue of intelligent management of solar and wind energy resources in island environments in a configuration of possible periods of scarcity (no or little wind or sun throughout the island for several consecutive days, under the assumption of a 100 % renewable energy mix scenario). Indeed, the probable change in the variability in space and time of atmospheric circulation (mosons, trade winds) or cloudiness during the 21st century will be all elements that will disrupt the potential of available solar and wind energy resources in our region. In addition to the resource, one can also wonder how climate change, by affecting current weather and climate patterns, will affect production systems (sustainability and energy efficiency, e.g. photovoltaic panels with a lifespan of 20.
