Solar Energy Infrastructure Expansion at Newark Liberty International Airport

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey plans to expand solar energy infrastructure at Newark Liberty International Airport by adding approximately 5 megawatts of generating capacity across five airport sites. The project is expected to produce nearly 5.9 million kilowatt-hours of clean electricity annually and avoid almost 2,000 metric tonnes of CO2 equivalent emissions each year. Construction is set to begin later in 2026 with completion targeted for 2028. The expansion includes solar installations on rooftops, parking lots, and parking structures, including a rideshare lot designed to power fast-charging electric vehicle stations.
