Description
Description | The Delhi Government is constructing a solar-powered public cooling hut in northwest Delhi as a pilot project to provide relief from extreme summer heat. The hut is designed with traditional khus grass padding and a sprinkler system to create a natural cooling effect. It will have seating, cold drinking water dispensers, and mobile charging sockets, powered by solar panels on the roof. The project aims to create public cooling zones for laborers, commuters, and residents exposed to high temperatures, reducing heat-related illnesses. The pilot facility is under construction in Shalimar Bagh and expected to be completed by the end of May 2026, with inauguration planned in the first week of June 2026. If successful, similar huts may be installed in other parts of Delhi. |
