Description
Description | The proposed infrastructure project responds to a pressing need to accelerate and improve the Somali population’s access to a more reliable, resilient, clean, and affordable source of power, while also ensuring a gender-responsive approach. It is designed with the following major components: (i) Installation of solar photovoltaic (PV) generators and battery storage, (ii) Construction of distribution lines and installation of transformers, including the connection of new customers, (iii) Dissemination of advanced biomass, and (iv) Undertaking technical assistance (TA) and capacity building. Implementing the above components will achieve the following project outputs: (i) 2,450 kWp PV and 4,750 kWh battery will be installed; (ii) 30.22 km (MV) and 24 km (LV) lines will be constructed, and 31 transformers will be installed; (iii) 15,000 new customers will be connected and 4,200 energy meters supplied to poor households; (iv) 25,000 improved cooking stoves will be disseminated; and (v) MoWER and ESP personnel will be trained. The total cost of the project is estimated at UA 6.45 million, including contingencies but net of taxes and duties. |
