Song Bac Hydroelectric was developing the 42 MW Song Bac River hydropower plant in the Northern Ha Giang Province, Quang Binh District. The plant was to consist of two turbines, generating over 166 million kWh annually. The project was expected for commissioning in 2013, whilst construction started in October 2011. Japanese Sumitomo Mitsui Bank provided a $50 million loan to the project, around 80% of total investment needed, at preferential loan rates. This would imply a total investment of $62.5 million. $30 million of the loan was disbursed during the initial development period. Land clearing was done in September 2010 for the $64 million (VND 1.29 trillion project). The terms of the loan were 14 years with 5 year grace period. The project was insured by the Overseas United Loan Insurance from Japanese ECA NEXI. The project applied for UNFCCC/CDM financing. Sponsor must be added.
