Song Mien 5 Hydro Power JSC was planning the development of the 20MW Song Mien 5 Hydropower Plant, Song Mien River in Thuan Hoa commune, Vi Xuyen district, Ha Giang province. The project was expected to generate 66.67 GWh annually, sold to the grid via a PPA signed with EVN. The project was expected to include the upgrade of roads to the communes, and a 110kV transmission line for output transmission. The project included 2 Francis vertical shaft turbines of 10.417MW each, an two Synchronous 3 phases vertical axis generators of 10MW each. the Feasibility study was finalized in August 2009, the construction contract was signed in February 2010. The equipment supply contract was signed in March 2010. The project applied for UNFCCC/CDM financing, the credits were bought by the Nordic Environment Finance Corporation (NEFCO). The equipment was to be supplied by the winner of a tender. Commissioning was expected for March 2012. The project lifespan was 30 years. Construction was 2.5 years. Electricity price was estimated at VND 685.49 per kWh ($0.0329 per kWh). Total investment was estimated at VND 382.764 billion ($18.4 million). Financial closure date was unknown.
