"The project comprises the development of 1.65-MW run-of-river power plant on the Ruvyironza River in Burundi. The sponsor is Anzana Electric Group, previously called Virunga Power, and the construction company is its subsidiary Songa Energy. The investment is $7.7 m. African Trade & Investment Development Insurance (ATIDI) agency has provided political risk insurance cover for the equity investment of the sponsor for $7.7 million. ATIDI's political risk insurance will cover the risk of default by the Government of Burundi following an arbitral award under the project agreements. The electricity generated by the project will be sold exclusively to the Burundian national power and water utility, La Régie de Production et de Distribution de l'Eau et de l'Electricité (REGIDESO) under a 25-year power purchase agreement (PPA).
