Announced during Cannes Film Festival 2023, Gustav Möller’s new feature film, SØNS, is one of 2024’s highly anticipated European films. His debut feature The Guilty was one of the biggest sensations of European cinema in recent years, therefore the expectations for his second feature are extremely strong. As we write these lines, we are preparing SONS’ world premiere that will take place in the Official Competition at Berlinale 2024. Eva, an idealistic prison officer, is faced with the dilemma of her life when a young man from her past gets transferred to the prison where she works. Without revealing her secret, Eva asks to be moved to the young man’s ward – the toughest and most violent in the prison. Here begins an unsettling psychological thriller, where Eva’s sense of justice puts both her morality and future at stake. Director Gustav Möller challenges the audience by proposing an uneasy moral dilemma: “How far would you go in your thirst for vengeance?” Revenge has inspired authors of every cultural expression since the beginnings of Western culture. Gustav Moller sets this dilemma in a high security prison, where a female guard will give free rein to her desires of revenge towards a new prisoner responsible of her son’s death. This gripping story is already a market buzz thanks to its stunning script and the participation of one of the most acclaimed European actresses, Sidse Babett Knudsen, playing the main role, along with an impressive cast (Sebastian Bull and Dar Salim, among others). Even before being completed, SØNS has attracted the attention of distributors from all over the world, encouraging them to come on board, covering 32 territories, including 19 European distributors, who joined the SØNS Europe Creative MEDIA journey.
